The Sangerstevne 2008 will be held during the afternoon and early evening of Saturday 17 May 2008, the fourth of its kind to be held in the London Borough of Ealing, West London.

A Sangerstevne (loosely translated from the Norwegian—a Congress of Singers) is a major event in the choral calendar in Scandinavia. Choirs, on a district, regional, or even a national basis gather, sing to each other in a series of public concerts, exchange repertoire and ideas, and generally get to know each other better.

Participating choirs and soloists will each present a short programme of their choice (10 to 15 minutes) in a series of public concerts.

The day will conclude with a performance by all singers (who wish to be involved with this) of two choral pieces, “How Goodly are Thy Tents” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” both now available for download from this website.

This year’s festival will take place at St Matthew’s Church in Ealing, West London.  St Matthew’s Church is a fine example of a late Victorian church, possessing exceptional stained glass windows and woodcarvings and a three-manual pipe organ built in 1884 by Auguste Gern.

The Sangerstevne festival is free and open to the general public.  Everyone is welcome to stay for the whole event or just that part which interests them most.

Light refreshments will be offered at regular intervals during the day.  There will be a retiring collection in aid of St Matthew’s Church Fabric Appeal.
